About Me

Stockton; the race that changed everything

In 2012, I entered a triathlon as a bit of fun. I had spent the week before enjoying myself on holiday in Cyprus. With no training and a lot of naivete I wound up coming 97th out of around 700 (losing dozens of places during the transitions). That was enough to get me hooked; I went away to train that winter knowing full well that I had a lot more to offer.

I returned to do my first full season in 2013. I had trained but hadn’t sacrificed anything in the process. I did enough to make the podium in every race among fields of a mixed quality. I went away that winter knowing I still had a lot more to offer. I also began to believe in myself that I could realise a childhood dream and compete for my country.

I was prepared to sacrifice anything and everything. I lived alone, I trained alone.

I had been doing something right over that winter. I put myself to the test against the best in the country, and in 2014 competed at an ETU Duathlon European Championships qualifier in Stockton. I won the event outright which secured my space on the British team. Whilst swimming had always been my first discipline, the chance to represent Great Britain as a duathlete was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.

I represented Great Britain at duathlon events across Europe and as far away as Adelaide, Australia. Since then I’ve podiumed in many races including ranking 1st at the Sprint Distance Duathlon European Championships in 2016.

Within just a couple of years, I reached the success I had hoped for in duathlon and am now heading back to the water and once again focussing on triathlon. This time competing in one of the toughest races in the world; Ironman.
